ACND Academic Olympics
Three hundred students representing fifteen Dade and Broward elementary schools gathered at Archbishop Curley Notre Dame Prep on Saturday, November 19 to participate in the 13th Annual ACND Academic Olympics.
Teams of scholars came from St. Mary’s Cathedral School, Our Lady of Divine Providence School, St. Kevin School, St. Michael the Archangel School, and Sts. Peter and Paul School of Miami, Blessed Trinity of Miami Springs, St. Joseph and St. Patrick School of Miami Beach, St. John the Apostle and Immaculate Conception School of Hialeah, St. Stephen and St. Bartholomew School of Miramar, St. Rose of Lima School of Miami Shores, Our Lady of the Lakes School of Miami Lakes, and St. Monica School of Opa Locka.
With their parents, principals, teachers and friends cheering them on, the students competed in five subject areas: Language, Mathematics, Religion, Science and Social Studies
The ACND community was also well represented with alumni serving as judges, Parent’s Council members preparing lunch and National Honor Society students assisting with the competitions. The Archbishop Curley Notre Dame Academic Olympics began in 1992 as a way for elementary school students to celebrate academic achievement in an exciting and supportive environment.
In the small school category, St. Joseph took the first place trophy and the certificate in Religion. Close behind in second place, St. Stephen won certificates in Language and Social Studies. St. Patrick finished in third with certificates in Science and Mathematics.
In the large school category, St. Rose of Lima came in first place and was the recipient of the Language certificate. St. Kevin won second place and the Religion certificate with St. John following in third place with the Mathematics certificate. Also in the large school category, Our Lady of the Lakes and Sts. Peter and Paul were awarded the Science and Social Studies certificates respectively. Eight of the fifteen schools were represented among the winners
