ACND Named New Host of MICA Grand Prix Chess Tournaments

 

Archbishop Curley Notre Dame High School has been named the new host of the Miami International Chess Academy (MICA) Grand Prix Chess Tournaments. 

 

The tournaments attract close to two hundred players and consist of nine competitions held once a month on a Saturday.  Participants are separated into four sections organized by grade level. 

 

Off to a great start this year with a tie for second and a third place finish at the first two MICA Grand Prix Tournaments, the ACND Chess Team received the title of National Champion in 2004 and has recorded and number of top state and regional finishes since 1999.

 

MICA, owned by Blas Lugo a nationally recognized chess player, trainer and organizer, won the 2004 United States Chess Federation Award for the Best Chess Club in Florida. 

 

ACND is a Catholic co-educational, college preparatory school serving grades 9 to 12 at 4949 Northeast Second Avenue in the heart of Miami.
