Winning Weekend

November 9, 2006

Homecoming festivities prove to be a hit amongst the Archbishop Curley Notre Dame community as the athletic program hits a high note.

Orange pom poms, a barbecue, lots of face paint and of course a football game marked a winning weekend for Archbishop Curley Notre Dame (ACND) High School.  The homecoming festivities brought together alums, their families, students and parents to cheer on the ACND Knights as they became district champions.

The homecoming celebration kicked off with a reception on Friday night.  It was an evening of memories and rekindled friendships especially for the classes of 1986 and 1996 who were celebrating their anniversaries.

Festivities continued on Saturday with entertainment for all ages at the homecoming game.  Over three hundred members of the ACND family cheered on the Knights to a 46-0 victory over Westminster Christian.  With the win, ACND once again confirmed its title as district football champions.

Football wasn’t the only excitement of the day, ponies, a bounce house, snow cones, cotton candy, a gigantic inflatable slide and inflatable joust kept the young and young at heart busy.   ACND parents ran a barbecue while alumnus Fabiola Ramirez did face painting.  There was also a special performance at half time with the unveiling of the ACND Band’s new uniforms.

The weekend was sponsored by the ACND Alumni Association, the ACND Parents’ Council, ACND Reunion Committees, ARAMARK Food Corporation, Pan American Food Brokers courtesy of Manny Garcia `81, Publix Supermarkets courtesy of David Ibarrolla `96, Mega Party Events courtesy of Neson Varona `86 and The Williams Family.

Formed in 1953 as Archbishop Curley High School and Notre Dame Academy, the two schools merged in 1981 to form the present Archbishop Curley Notre Dame High School on the 4949 NE 2nd Avenue campus.  ACND prides itself on its family atmosphere and its well established tradition of offering quality education in an inclusive environment.

While the ACND Advancement Office plans for next year’s homecoming celebration, Knight football takes the next step towards state as they prepare for regional playoffs.
