Career Breakfasts with Alums at ACND
September 14, 2006
In its second year, Career Breakfasts with Alums at
Archbishop Curley Notre Dame High School offer students a valuable learning
experience.
Miami, FL
- Giving students the opportunity to meet with professionals, learn from their
experience, become part of the network of alums and solidify their plans for
college and life beyond is the goal of Archbishop Curley Notre Dame (ACND) High
School’s Career Breakfasts with Alums.
This year’s series was kicked off by architect Mike Rodriguez `75,
lawyer Jerome Hurtak `76 and public relations consultant Pete Garcia `83 on
September 13.
Entering its second year,
ACND’s Career Breakfasts have drawn the insights of alums in the fields of law,
medicine, finance, education, the arts and mass communications. They return to their alma mater twice a
month to share their stories from high school graduation through college to the
present.
Representing a variety of
careers, the lead presenters in the 2006-2007 series are all entrepreneurs. Mike Rodriguez `75 serves as the President
of Rodriguez Architects, Inc., a full service architectural firm in Coral
Gables. A member of the class of 1976
and current father to two ACND students, Jerome Hurtak owns his own law firm in
North Miami. Pete Garcia `83 created
his own public relations consulting firm, Smooth Jazz Communications.
Each of the speakers
stressed hard work, determination and the importance of giving back to the
community through volunteer service. Students were then given the opportunity to interact through a
question and answer session.
ACND serves as the home of
numerous alumnae and alumni who have attained notable success in a variety of
fields. Their desire to share their
stories and the interests of the students combine to make the Career Breakfasts
a great success. Subsequent breakfasts
will focus on careers in technology, business, hospitality, healthcare and
entertainment.
