ACND Team Awarded Top Honor

The Speech and Debate team at Archbishop Curley Notre Dame High School is the 2005-06 recipient of the National Forensic League’s Leading Chapter Award for the South Florida District.

The honor, based on student participation and excellence, is the highest the National Forensic League bestows. Over the past five years, ACND’s team has included a national champion, three state champions and numerous national and state rankings.

This year’s team got off to a strong start with four first-place finishes at last weekend’s Charger Invitational: senior Max Gaston in Original Oratory, senior Daniel Seigel in Student Congress, freshmen Stephanie Acevedo in Novice Oral Interpretation and freshman Kristina Andrion in Declamation. Juniors Melissa Bruno and Steven Raveesh placed second and sixth, respectively, in Declamation, and classmate Jennifer Macourek took fifth in Oral Interpretation. Sophomore Georgell Peckoo won third place in Novice Humorous Interpretation.

ACND’s Speech and Debate team will be travel to Gainesville October 27-31 to compete in the Blue Key Invitational at the University of Florida.

Founded in 1953 as Archbishop Curley High School and Notre Dame Academy and united by merger in 1981, ACND is a Catholic, co-educational, college preparatory school serving grades 9 to 12 at 4949 Northeast Second Avenue in the heart of Miami.
