ACND’s New Dean of Students a Familiar Face
Mr. Douglas Romanik has been appointed Dean of Students at Archbishop Curley Notre Dame Prep. A 1984 alumnus of ACND, Mr. Romanik earned a B.A. degree at Harvard College and a Doctorate in Law from the University of Miami.
In announcing the appointment, ACND principal, Brother Patrick Sean Moffett, CFC, Ph.D., expressed special delight in having an alumnus of Mr. Romanik’s competence accept such a significant role in advancing the spirit and traditions of the school.
Founded in 1953 as separate establishments, Notre Dame Academy and Archbishop Curley High School merged in 1981 to form the present Archbishop Curley Notre Dame High School on the Buena Vista campus, extending from 49th to 50 th streets, from NE 2nd Avenue to Federal Highway.
The first secondary school in the state to accept white and black students, and among the first to welcome the Pedro Pan Students and most recently the Opportunity Scholars, ACND prides itself on its diversity as well as its proven tradition of excellence in college preparatory education.
Mr. Romanik brings to his new position a unique set of professional experiences. After practicing law for several years, he assumed responsibility for the administration of a family business, Cloverleaf Lanes, until this past year when he joined the faculty as a senior teacher of Economics and Government.
The Romanik name is well known at ACND. Mr. Romanik, his siblings, cousins, and nieces and nephews have all graduated from the school. His sister, Beth Romanik Love, is a member of the faculty. His father, Mr. Tom Romanik, a long time benefactor, was inducted into the Archbishop Curley Notre Dame High School Hall of Fame in April of 2005.
A resident of Miami Shores, Mr. Romanik, his wife Haydee and children Megan, Rhian, and Grace are active members of the St. Rose of Lima Parish.
Mr. Romanik succeeds Br. Christopher Hall, CFC in his position as Dean. Br. Hall has been appointed Assistant Head of School at the Christian Brothers’ famed Rice High School in Harlem, New York. In his new position, Mr. Romanik hopes to continue the legacy of both Brother Hall and that of the late Mr. Chuck Guimento. “He helped me to become the man I am today and I hope to have the same impact on the current generation of ACND students.”
A reception to celebrate his appointment will be held at ACND at 3:00 p.m. on the afternoon of Sunday, October 9th.
