Archbishop Curley-Notre Dame
High School of the Archdiocese of
4949 NE 2 Avenue
Press release – May 6,
2005
On May 4, Ms. Beatriz Rodriguez, Vice Principal Emerita of Archbishop Curley Notre Dame High School (ACND) was honored with the highest award given by the Archdiocese of Miami. In a special Eucharistic celebration, Archbishop John C. Favalora presented to Ms. Rodriguez the Primum Regnum Dei medal in recognition of her faith-filled, passionate commitment to Catholic education and her love in action for the poor.
In a recent interview Ms. Rodriguez described the poor she has sought to serve during her lifetime “as the daughters and sons of God, who witness Him by living in absolute poverty and sometimes desolation, while sharing the little they have with one another.” This vision inspired and energized the creation of Amor en Accion, a Catholic lay missionary group of the Archdiocese of Miami that focuses its efforts on the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
One of its programs consists of the establishment of the “sister diocese relationship” with the Diocese of Port-de-Paix, Haiti. As the result of her efforts as mission coordinator at ACND, the students have donated over $150,000 to their sister school and other missions.
During her 37-year service to the Archdiocese of Miami, Ms. Rodriguez worked at St. Matthew’s School in Hallandale, at St. Michael’s Parish in Miami, at St. Monica’s School and Parish in Opa-Locka, and at Archbishop Curley - Notre Dame High School. She was a school teacher, coordinator of religious instruction, guidance counselor and vice-principal for academics.
After her official retirement three years ago, Ms. Rodriguez has continued to coordinate the missions program at ACND. She also currently works part time in the Advancement Office continuing her commitment to children, her love for education, and her dedication to the marginalized.
