The June Academy

Archbishop Curley Notre Dame High School of Miami will open its historic sixteen acre Upper East Side campus for the month of June to provide a unique educational summer experience for youngsters ages 8 to 16.

ACND has transformed its thirteen year old summer camp into The June Academy, a program where children can enjoy the process of learning in a community of active participants.  With the school year ending in May, The June Academy will offer a solution for parents searching for a quality program.

Under the direction of the Athletic Director, Coach Greg Magner, ACND’s original camp thrived as a basic sports camp with lessons in basketball, football, soccer and track and field.  As the need arose for a fully comprehensive camp offering both lessons on and off the field, The June Academy was born.  With an array of courses in computer graphics, speech and debate, Tae-Kwon Do, basketball, football, soccer, film, chess and others, classes will be tailored to the participants’ abilities while challenging their skills.

A group of elite teachers and coaches with the assistance of 16 ACND student counselors will run the academy.  All students attended “capacity building” workshops conducted by the Devereux Foundation under a grant from the Allegany Franciscan Ministries, Inc.  The training focused on the skills of communication, conflict resolution, leadership, community involvement, strength based thinking, health, and self responsibility.

The June Academy will run from June 5 through June 30 and will be open to campers ages 8 to 16.  The program offers a morning and afternoon session beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 3:00 p.m.  Lunch and field trips are included in the tuition and before and after care will be offered at an extra fee.  Limited opportunities for financial aid are available.

The catholic, college preparatory high school is located at 4949 NE 2 Avenue, Miami, on the edge of the Art and Design District. ACND offers a variety of extracurricular and athletic programs and is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.  Applications for the 2006-2007 school year for grades 9 and 10 are now being accepted.
