Chess Knights

The excitement grows as the Chess Knights of Archbishop Curley - Notre Dame High School prepare for the Superstates II, the 2005 Florida State Scholastic Chess Championship on January 28 - 30 in Kissimmee. This event, hosted by the Florida Chess Association & the Florida Scholastic Chess League, welcomes students from Kindergarten through 12th grade.  Top teams and individuals in Open sections will be Florida Champions and will compete in the Nationals.

ACND will be bringing to the event experienced members of last year's US Scholastic National Championship (Under 1200) winning team. They will be competing once again in the Open K-12 and in the K-12 Under 1000 Divisions: seniors Ricky Friedman, Nerissa Rojas, Carson Chan, and juniors Jonathon Buchman, Victor Sierra and Nelson Chan, led by senior co-captains Wesley D'Silva and Danny Garcia.

Junior, Jonathon Buchman, currently a highly ranked player with the US Chess Federation, is three points from being considered a Master. In the Individual State Competition this year, Jonathon was the champion in the Under 2000 Division. In the most recent grade level National Championship, Jonathon was 3rd in the nation among all eleventh graders.  Good luck to all of our Chess Knights!
