ACND 15th Annual Academic Olympic

Students representing sixteen Dade and Broward elementary schools gathered at Archbishop

Curley Notre Dame (ACND) High School on Saturday, November 10th to participate in the 15th

annual Academic Olympics.  With the focus on academic excellence, the friendly competition

among the schools culminated with St. Kevin School and St. James School being named the

winners in the large and small school categories respectively.

 

Teams of scholars came from Corpus Christi School, The Cushman School, St. Kevin School,

St. Mary Cathedral School, St. Monica School, Sts. Peter and Paul School and St. Thomas the

Apostle School of Miami; Holy Cross Lutheran School and St. James School of North Miami;

Our Lady of the Lakes School of Miami Lakes; St. Bartholomew School and St. Stephen School

of Broward;  St. John the Apostle School of Hialeah; St. Joseph School and St. Patrick School of

Miami Beach; and St. Rose of Lima School of Miami Shores.

 

With parents, principals, teachers and friends in attendance, the students competed in five

subject areas: Language, Mathematics, Religion, Science and Social Studies. 

 

In the small school category, St. James took the first place trophy and won first place in the

Language subject round.  Close behind in second place overall was St. Stephen School who took

first place in the Math competition.  St. Mary Cathedral School finished in third place and was the

subject round winner in Religion and Science.

 

In the large school category, St. Kevin came in first place and was the Social Studies and Math

 subject winners.  Sts. Peter and Paul came in second place and as the Language subject winner

and St. Rose of Lima came in third with a solid finish in all subject rounds.       

 

The Archbishop Curley Notre Dame Academic Olympics began in 1992 as an outlet for elementary

 school students to celebrate academic achievement in an exciting and supportive environment. 

The event not only gathers area schools but also brings together the entire ACND community. 

Current student members of the National Honor Society and Student Council assist the competitions. 

Alumnae representing various prominent fields and faculty serve as judges.  Parents take on the role

of host and prepare the meals for the day.

 

A Catholic, co-educational, college preparatory high school, ACND is located in the heart of Miami at

 4949 NE 2nd Avenue. The school will be proctoring its Entrance Exam on Saturday, February 2, 2007.
