ACND Boys’ Cross Country Team Members Honored
January 18, 2008
Miami, FL - Carl Dominique, Marlon De La Cruz and Artie Salow were recently honored at the Archbishop Curley
Notre Dame High School Athletic Banquet for their outstanding accomplishments and dedication to the ACND Boys’
Cross Country Team that led them to state competition.
As a junior, Carl Dominique was chosen as the team’s captain. Throughout the season, Carl was ACND’s first finisher
in every race and guided the boys’ team to a new school record for most victories in a season, 27. He was awarded
the Most Valuable Player Trophy at the banquet for his outstanding leadership and performance.
In his first year on the Cross Country team, Junior Artie Salow was the most consistent runner on the team
and proved to be a hard worker as well as a motivator for his team mates. After a disappointing finish at district
competition, Artie pleaded with the team’s coach, Br. John Corcoran, to allow them to hold two-a-day practices to
prepare for the regional meet. After some compromising, they agreed to increase the intensity of the workouts. It
paid off, they finished ahead of the team they lost to at district competition and qualified a number of runners for state
competition. Artie was named the recipient of the first Coach’s Award for 2007.
Junior Marlon De La Cruz was another newcomer to cross-country for 2007 but it didn’t stop him from earning a spot
on the varsity team and becoming a point scorer in many of the most important meets of the year. Marlon was awarded
the Second Coach’s Award at the ACND Athletic Banquet.
Carl and Artie are currently members of the Boy’s Soccer Team and look forward to joining the Track team in the Spring.
