Honor Societies

National Honor Society

Four main purposes guide our chapters of the National Honor Society:

  • To create enthusiasm for scholarship
  • To stimulate a desire to render service
  • To promote leadership
  • To develop character in the students of secondary schools

These purposes also translate into the criteria used for membership selection in each local chapter.

English Honor Society

The National English Honor Society (NEHS), is a national organization exclusively for high school students and faculty that recognizes its members' past and current accomplishments in the field of English.

Spanish Honor Society | Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica (SHH)

Chapter: "Julio Ramon Ribeyro"

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica SHH is an honor society for High School students enrolled in Spanish language classes. The purpose of this society is to recognize high achievement of high school students in the Spanish language and to promote a continued interest in Hispanic studies.

In order to apply to the Spanish Honors Society, the student must be in High School and have maintained an average of B+ or higher in the study of the Spanish language for at least 3 semesters, a GPA of 3.0 and a recommendation from your Spanish teacher. The student must be in the 10th grade or higher before joining the SHH.

The Spanish Honor Society members will be expected to assist with peer tutoring after school as part of their community service and be actively involved in other activities organized by the SHH.
